30th November, 1937.

Dear Gent,

Your confidential letter of 14th October about

the St. John Ambulance Brigade.

Morris has been interesting himself in a private

capacity in supplying doctors and nurses for the Nanking

Government but he assures me that nothing like a Hong Kong

unit of the Ambulance Brigade has been allowed to go. The

figures he gives are 52 volunteers of whom only 5 were in

fact members of the Brigade.

The whole question of the Brigade is, as you

know, under consideration, but I thought I should give

you this assurance regarding its activities in China.

Yours sincerely,

N.L. Smith

G.E.J.Gent, Esq.,

Colonial Office,
